Carol Lane

Carol Lane leads government affairs for X-energy, where she works closely with Congress, the Administration, and federal agencies to shape and advance U.S. energy, nuclear, and national security policy in support of the company’s commercial and government deployment objectives. She joined X-energy in 2015 and plays a central role in aligning advanced nuclear deployment with federal policy, appropriations, and regulatory frameworks.

Ms. Lane brings more than three decades of experience spanning the legislative and executive branches of government as well as the private sector, with deep expertise in energy policy, civilian and commercial space, and national security. Her legislative experience includes serving as Staff Director for the Science, Technology and Space Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, as well as a professional staff member on the Senate Budget Committee, where she worked on space and energy policy, funding and oversight.

In the executive branch, Ms. Lane served as a presidential appointee during the Reagan Administration as Director of the Office of Commercial Space Transportation at the U.S. Department of Transportation, helping establish early federal policy and regulatory structures for a nascent commercial space industry. In the private sector, she previously served as Vice President of Washington Operations and Vice President of Civil and Commercial Space at Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., and held senior policy and business development roles at Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.

Carol is a graduate of George Washington University. She serves on the National Academy of Sciences’ Space Technology Industry–Government–University Roundtable and on the Advisory Board of the Nuclear Innovation Alliance. Previously, she held the positions of President of the American Astronautical Society and as Chair of the Board for Women in Aerospace.
