Joel Duling

Joel Duling is president of X-energy’s TRISO-X advanced nuclear fuel fabrication and development subsidiary, leading the company’s efforts to commercialize its proprietary TRISO fuel and overseeing the construction of the Nation’s first dedicated Category 2 advanced fuel manufacturing facility licensed by Nuclear Regulatory Commission (TX-1), as well as the Company’s advanced nuclear fuel fabrication campus in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Duling has more than 40 years of leadership experience in nuclear operations, manufacturing, and complex program management. Before joining TRISO-X, Duling helped to lead the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (“PNNL”), where he served as Associate Laboratory Director for Operational Systems. In this role, he oversaw the PNNL’s project execution, nuclear operations, safety, and general infrastructure operations. Duling previously held various leadership roles at BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) for nearly two decades, including serving as president of its Nuclear Operations Group and as president of Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc. in Erwin, Tennessee. During his tenure, he spearheaded significant business growth, operational management, and strategic initiatives, including revitalizing BWXT’s TRISO fuel line in Lynchburg Virginia.

Duling also held various leadership positions at the Idaho National Laboratory, including Site Manager for BWXT at the Naval Reactors Facility, Director of the Specific Manufacturing Capability and Deputy Director of the Advanced Test Reactor. He also served as Vice President of Production at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Duling holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biophysical systems and chemistry from Northern Michigan University, a graduate certificate in applied nuclear energy from Idaho State University, and a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University.
