X-energy & Doosan enter into an agreement to perform engineering services and manufacturing studies of major reactor equipment

X-energy and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction have entered into an agreement to perform engineering services and manufacturing studies for X-energy’s major reactor equipment for its Xe-100 Reactor.

Doosan will support studies for design optimization & manufacturability, will run mock-up tests for critical manufacturing processes and will perform design and engineering services. Doosan will also utilize BWXT Canada for complete components or sub-assemblies, diversifying and increasing domestic supply of large reactor equipment for Canadian projects.

We are fortunate to have structured our agreements with Doosan and BWXT to facilitate the greatest level of collaboration, which will result in maximum flexibility to meet the needs of our customers on price, quality and local economic impact.

In working with Doosan, X-energy has already seen a significant reduction of the number of welds required on the Xe-100 pressure boundary. Doosan’s world leading forging capability reduces the number of welds which has a significant impact on operational costs by requiring less inspections once in service.

The Xe-100 is an 80 MWe (scalable to a 320 MWe four-pack) high temperature gas-cooled reactor. It uses TRi-structural ISOtropic particle fuel (TRISO), manufactured by X-energy (TRISO-X), that can integrate into large, regional electricity systems as a base and load-following source of carbon-free power. As such, it can optimize grid use of low-emission, intermittent renewables and other clean energy resources and is also ideal for other power applications such as a source for industrial process heat.
