About the Project
Advanced Nuclear for Indiana’s Energy Future
A New Chapter for Indiana Energy
Indiana is growing, and the power that keeps its homes, farms, and factories running has to grow with it. X-energy, American Electric Power and Amazon are evaluating a 960 MW advanced nuclear plant in Sullivan County. AEP would own and operate the facility, bringing more than 50 years of nuclear operating experience to a new generation of reliable, carbon-free power.

Coal-to-Nuclear
For decades, Indiana Michigan Power’s Breed Generating Station powered the region from the banks of the Wabash River. Today, its former site is being evaluated for deployment of 960 MW of safe, reliable, carbon-free energy, which would restore a long-dormant industrial site to productive use, benefitting both the local community, and the regional grid.

Carbon-Free Grid Reliability
The proposed plant would connect directly to the PJM grid that serves Indiana, adding 960 MW of always-on, carbon-free generation. New capacity, rather than competition for what already exists, is what keeps power reliable for every customer as demand grows, around the clock and in every season for decades – not just months or years.

Powering the Cloud
Cloud infrastructure needs safe energy that runs around the clock, technology designed to deliver it, and a utility with proven experience in nuclear operations. Our partnership brings all three, helping meet the growing energy needs of cloud infrastructure while strengthening supply for the whole region.
