Carter Lawson
Carter Lawson serves as Co-General Counsel & Board Secretary at X-energy, where he provides strategic legal counsel and compliance oversight across the company’s operations. Since joining X-energy in May 2023, Mr. Lawson has leveraged extensive experience in nuclear energy law, international project finance, and complex cross-border transactions to support the company’s growth and development initiatives.
Prior to X-energy, Mr. Lawson served as Chief Legal Counsel at King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy in Saudi Arabia from 2020 to 2023, where he provided legal guidance on the Kingdom’s nuclear and renewable energy programs. From 2017 to 2020, he served as General Counsel for Barakah One Company at Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation in Abu Dhabi, supporting the development and operation of the UAE’s first nuclear energy plant. His Middle East experience also includes serving as General Counsel of Petro Rabigh, a major refining and petrochemical company in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Lawson held significant legal leadership roles in the U.S. nuclear energy sector, including Chief Counsel of UniStar Nuclear Energy, LLC, a joint venture between Constellation Energy and Électricité de France, and Senior Counsel at Constellation Energy. He also served as Deputy General Counsel and Counsel at the Export-Import Bank of the United States, where he managed legal services supporting over $24 billion in annual export financing and structured complex cross-border transactions.
Mr. Lawson holds a Master of Laws degree (with distinction) in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown Law, where he also earned his Juris Doctor. He received his BA from The University of Georgia.
