Appointment will lead X-energy’s entry into the United Kingdom advanced nuclear marketplace
ROCKVILLE, Maryland, September 20, 2022 – X-energy today announced that Carol Tansley has joined the company as Vice President, UK New Build Projects. In this role, she will oversee all of X-energy’s activities towards establishing the Xe-100 as the preeminent High Temperature Gas Reactor technology (HTGR) in the United Kingdom.
Earlier this year, X-energy announced its deployment partnership with Cavendish Nuclear, part of the Babcock International Group, towards decarbonization of industrial heat, hydrogen at scale as well as electricity, helping meet the growing demand for low carbon energy in the UK. Development and deployment of the Xe-100 will support an increase in UK energy security, contribute towards the Government’s Net Zero commitments, create considerable opportunities for the UK Supply Chain as well as create high-tech, well-paying jobs. The appointment of Carol as the Vice President, UK New Build Projects represents X-energy’s real commitment and another step towards supporting the UK government’s strategic goals.
“X-energy is making a significant investment into the future of Advanced Modular Reactors and the UK’s efforts to decarbonize. Carol will work with our partner Cavendish Nuclear towards identifying project sites and partners, develop the UK supply chain, and bring the Xe-100 on-line as soon as 2030,” said X-energy CEO J. Clay Sell. “All over the world, we are seeing energy prices rising rapidly to unsustainable levels, damaging economies and hurting people. We are prepared to move quickly to work with the UK to add much needed capacity.”
Prior to X-energy, Carol previously served as the Operational Readiness Control Center Director for the highly successful Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation’s start-up of the Barakah Nuclear Plants in the UAE. She was also the Nawah Energy Company, Director of Strategic Programs. Prior to this she served as a Senior Director for PwC in the UK and UAE as well as worked with Accenture delivering some of the largest UK public sector change programs.
“Carol brings a tremendous depth of experience in strategically developing and managing new nuclear projects to X-energy,” said George Vanderheyden, X-energy’s Chief Nuclear Officer and Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations. “Her highly successful experience at bringing real-change programs by working collaboratively with the UK government on public-private partnerships will accelerate our ability to deploy the Xe-100 in the UK.”
Carol is a graduate of Aston University (UK). She studied at the École Supérieure de Commerce de Nantes (France) and recently submitted her dissertation at the University of Oxford (UK) to complete an MSc. Major Programme Management.
