Pete Pappano, PhD

President, TRISO-X

As President of TRISO-X, Pete Pappano, PhD, leads X-energy’s fuel production strategy. Since joining X-energy in 2015, he has managed the company’s low enriched uranium supply chain and the development of X-energy’s fuel fabrication capabilities. Pete leads X-energy’s Department of Energy (DOE) ARC15 project, which enables X-energy to further its reactor design codes and methods, research/develop a TRISO-based fuel production capability, and initiate interactions with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. As Principal Investigator for the DOE iFOA project, he manages X-energy’s team that will complete the design of a CAT II facility and develop an NRC fuel fabrication license application. 

Pete has 20 years of experience in the public and private sector, including the U.S. Department of Energy, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and SGL Carbon, where he has managed nuclear energy projects and multiple cooperative research and development agreements with DOE offices. Pete was awarded undergraduate and master’s degrees from Penn State University and went on to earn a PhD in Materials Science from the University.
